A study by Dundee School of Psychology in London, England found that children not facing the person pushing them are more likely to exhibit signs of stress. Suzanne Zeedyk, who led the research said that "Our data suggests that for many babies today, life in a buggy is emotionally impoverished and possibly stressful." (How does one tell if a baby is stressed from being pushed improperly or stressed from hunger or soiled diapers?)
Zeedyk added, "Stressed babies grow into anxious adults."
Do We All Need Help
Anxiety is an umbrella term covering panic, depression, and multiple anxiety disorders. Drugs like Paxil, Lexapro, Cimbalta, and Wellbutrin are some of the medications prescribed to approximately 18% of all adults for relief. My point being anyone over the age of 30 years old was more than likely pushed around in a stroller of this type, since that was the only kind available so are we all suffering. If Zeedyk's study is accurate, then there should be more adults seeking relief. Is it that we are a world of overly anxious citizens and too stupid to realize it or is it another ridiculous study? Perhaps there should be an aerial spraying of Prozac to help those adults, who as children were pushed in their strollers facing the wrong way. In any case, it is just one more thing for which we can blame our mothers.
